Twice a year I volunteer to teach surgical skills to the next generation of eye specialists, at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London. Through a series of lectures, one-on-one practical sessions and group workshops, I help the students hone their operating skills in cataract surgery as they practise on a simulator machine, and then on real pig eyes (a close match to our own!)
I really enjoy this important work, and it's always great to hear that the skills and techniques I have taught are helping students deliver safe and successful cataract surgery in hospitals across the country and around the world. I have also received the 'Trainer of the Year' award.
